24th Library and Information Services Month

The whole month of November, by virtue of Proclamation No. 837 s.1991, is declared as Library and Information (LIS) Month in order to focus public awareness to the invaluable service that libraries and information centers render such as providing data and materials for the long knowledge and learning for research and for leisure.

Traditionally, the event kicks with opening ceremonies held at the National Library of the Philippines (NLP) and ends in celebration with the largest library congress in the Philippines organized by the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI). Various library institutions and library associations also join in the celebrations with their general assemblies, lecture series and fora usually held at the National Library of the Philippines.

This year, to mark the 24th the morning with Ms. Yolanda C. Granda, Professional Board for Librarians (PRBFL) Chair, as Keynote Speaker on the topic: “ASEAN Integration: Issues and Concerns”. The affair, jointly hosted by the NLP, National Commission for Culture and the Arts—National Committee for Library and Information Services (NCCA-NCLIS) and PLAI is highlighted by the awarding of the winners of this year’s Search for Libraries with Services to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). This year’s LIS month has adopted the theme: “Philippine Libraries: Future Possibilities”. In the afternoon, PLAI-NCR will hold its General Assembly and Oath Taking of the New Board of Directors.
